Mary Genevieve Saukaitis, 67, of 32 Lilo Lane, Hummelstown, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at her residence. She was born at Geisinger Hospital on March 11, 1949, a daughter of the late Raymond A. and Mary (Pauza) Saukaitis.
She was a resident of Mount Carmel until 1966, when she left the area and lived in Iowa, Hershey and lastly, in Hummelstown. She was a 1966 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and a 1970 graduate of Penn State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science. She then earned her master's degree from Iowa State. Mary retired in 2011 as a dietician at Hershey Medical Center, where she also worked with diabetic and burned children. Mary was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Mount Carmel, and currently a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey. Survivors include a brother, Raymond Saukaitis and his wife, Alana, of Trevorton, as well as cousins. Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to attend a funeral Mass 11 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 Areba Avenue, Hershey, with Father Al Sceski, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Mount Carmel Township at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, C.J. Geraldine J. Diggins, 75, of Hershey, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Harrisburg. She was born on September 25, 1940 in Hazleton PA, the daughter of the late Anthony and Lena (Plesh) Veet.
Mrs. Diggins was a 1958 graduate of Hazelton High School and former employee of Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown, PA. She was a life member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey. Geraldine was administrative director of the Hershey Racquet Club, where she enjoyed her love of tennis with her son Bernard; and organized, conducted and participated in USTA regional tournaments. She was active in the Mohler Senior Center, where she enjoyed line dancing, creative artwork and participating in the Red Hat Club. Geraldine is survived by: husband, Francis E. Diggins; son Bernard J. Diggins and his wife Kristin; grandchildren, Ashley, Alexander, and Victoria; sister, Angela Dragonette and husband Carl; sister Bernadette Koval; and many nieces & nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11AM in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will follow in the Hershey Cemetery. Stinson, 75 of Lakeland, FL, and formerly of Hershey, PA, passed away on August 22, 2016 at the Hershey Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Born September 16, 1940 in Urbana, OH, she was the daughter of the late Riley and Betty (Barger) Roush.
Surviving are husband, William S. Stinson, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; a son, two daughters, their spouses, and three grandchildren: William III, Elizabeth (Mello), Audrey, Drew, and Miriam Stinson of Hershey; Christine (Stinson) and Simon Hanstad of Pittsburgh, and Mary Stinson of Lakeland, FL. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters and spouses: James and Loretta Roush of Indianapolis, IN; Tom and Sue Roush of St.Paris, OH; Susie (Roush) Delewese of Powell, OH; Kimberly (Roush) and James Steiner of Springfield, OH. She was a graduate of Graham High School and The Ohio State University. She taught English and mathematics, in the Canal Winchester, OH; Upper Arlington, OH; and Nyack, NY school districts. She tutored in the Cherry Hill, NJ and Derry Township school districts, volunteered as a museum docent at the Hershey Museum and Polk County Art Museum, and was past president of the Hershey Area League of Women Voters. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 4:30pm in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Hershey. Visitation will be from 3:30pm until time of service. O'Lear, 85, of Traditions of Hershey and formerly of McAdoo until 1991, died Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born June 24, 1931 in McAdoo, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Olenick) O'Lear and the widower of Catherine (Ferry) O'Lear who died in 1996. He was also preceded in death by siblings Cecelia, Joseph, Stephen, John, and Adam. Rick was a 1949 graduate of McAdoo High School and Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Along with his mother and brother, he owned O'Lears Catering in McAdoo and later was the owner of Scraffords Inn in Hometown. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Surviving are his children Cornelia, wife of Jeff Tyler of Lebanon, Cecelia, wife of Mark Baldwin of Hummelstown, Emerick J. O'Lear and partner Larry Lynch of Tamaqua, and John, husband of Jean O'Lear of McAdoo; sister Betty Ann Pavelko of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; and two great grandsons. He loved his family and loved reunions with his extended family, where he served as the patriarch. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews who always looked forward to seeing their Uncle Emerick. He was affectionately known as Gramps to many others who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at his church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Interment at 4:00 PM Wednesday in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, McAdoo. Schiavoni, 94, of Hershey, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in his home. Born June 2, 1922 in Hershey, he was a son of the late Giosue and Agnese (Camacci) Schiavoni.
Gino was a World War II Army Veteran having been a tank driver in the 9th Armored Division where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retired employee of Hershey Foods, member of St. Joan of Arc Church and Hershey VFW Post #3502, where he enjoyed coffee and gossip with his buddies every morning. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Surviving is his daughter, Sandra Lee English and husband, Joseph of Hershey; sisters, Adeline Lalli and Sylvia Luttrell both of Hershey; grandchildren, Christopher Schiavoni, Erin (English) Palermo, Jordan English and Jonathan English; great-granddaughter, Gianna Palermo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne (Tacca) Schiavoni; son, Joseph Schiavoni; brothers, Mario, Victor and Evo Schiavoni. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 18th at 11:00AM in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. of Hershey. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until time of service. He was born May 6, 1929 in Harth, Austria, son of the late Franz and Maria (Mortinger) Gangl. Hans left home at age 14 to apprentice at the Hotel Sacher, Vienna, Austria. Upon completion of his apprenticeship, Hans went on to work at some of the finest hotels and resorts throughout Europe and North America. He settled in Hershey in 1965 where he served as maître d at the Hotel Hershey for 25 years. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Hershey. Hans is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eugenie A. Gangl of Hershey; son, Mark C. Gangl, wife, Caroline, and daughters Mari and Megan of Lancaster; son, Thomas A. Gangl, wife, Patty, and daughters Katlyn and Courtney of Bel Air, MD; son, Martin J. Gangl and wife, Amy, of Mount Joy; brother, Franz Gangl; and 2 nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Karl Gangl. A visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2016, 9:30 am - 10:30 am, in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, of Hershey. Kolaric, Sr., 71, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hershey on November 26, 1944, he was the son of the late Frank M. Kolaric, Sr. and Catherine E. Behrens Kolaric. Jim retired from H. B. Reese Candy Company as a Kit Kat Supervisor. He was a 1962 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School, Hummelstown. Jim was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam era. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. Jim loved fishing, wildlife, feeding the songbirds around his home, and watching NASCAR. His passion in life was farming, especially helping Brad Miller on the farm, and collecting replica farm toys. Jim is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Ethel M. Cobaugh Kolaric, whom he married on September 24, 1966, a son, James R. Kolaric, Jr. of Hummelstown; four brothers, Frank M. Kolaric, Jr., Albert J. Kolaric, Sr., Stanley A. Kolaric, and Ivan J. Kolaric husband of Wanda all of Hummelstown; two sisters, Judith M. wife of Paul R. Weaver and Diane R. wife of Gerald J. Dougherty both of Hummelstown; a sister-in-law, Geraldine N. Kolaric of Rutherford; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Paul E. Kolaric. Prayer services will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016, at 12:30 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. He was born and grew up in Shoemakers, Mahanoy City, PA. He was a graduate of the Mahanoy Township high school; Academy of Aeronautics, Long Island, NY; Rising Sun School of Aeronautics, Philadelphia; and the Army Non-commissioned school in Lido, Italy; and obtained his pilot's license from the Hazelton Aircraft School. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Italy with the 88th Infantry Division. As a young boy he worked in the family coal mine. He was employed by the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown, PA and retired from the Defense Contract Administration as an Industrial Specialist. In 1980 he was the industrial specialist of the year by the defense contract administration. He was a member of Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey; The Knights of Columbus, Middletown Council 3501; and American Legion Post 386, Hershey. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Emil also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, automobiles and airplanes. Emil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maryann (Shimkonis) Malasavage of Hershey; son, Mark Malasavage & his wife Carol of Palmyra; daughters, Susan Zug & her husband Peter of Cornwall; and Marie Scherbarth & her husband David of Pittsburgh; 4 grandsons, Adam Malasavage, Matthew & Andrew Scherbarth, and Benjamin Zug; and granddaughter Sarah Zug. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Metro & Kathryn (Straka) Malasavage, two brothers and two sisters. A visitation will be held Sunday, July 17, 2016, 4 pm - 6 pm, in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory of Hershey; and also on Monday from 9 am-10 am. "Bobby T" Trenn, 64, of Hershey, passed away on July 5, 2016, in his home after an extended illness. He was born June 23, 1952 in Hershey, a son of the late Charlie and Millie (Stranger) Trenn.
Bobby was the former Trainer for The Hershey Bears and Washington Capitals. He is the owner of Tworks, an on-course operations co. on the PGA Tour. Bobby was also the Rink Manager at Milton Hershey School. He loved Auto Racing. Sprint cars, NASCAR, and Indy Cars. His favorite was his annual trip to Indy 500. He was Notre Dames Biggest Fan. Bobby is survived by his brother, Charles "Chuck" R. Trenn, Jr. of Hummelstown; two sisters, Patricia A. (Theodore) Engle of New Buffalo and Mary Ellen (Jack) McGarrity of Harrisburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Monday, July 11th in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday. Inurnment will be private at the Hershey Cemetery. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew Hudock, much loved mother of Andrew of Nashville, Tennessee and Stephen (Laura) of Cincinnati. Loving grandmother of Adam and Elise. Also surviving are caring sister Margaret and brothers Jack and Ronald and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother Frank and parents Frank and Margaret (Valites) Smith.
Visitation at Hoover Funeral Home, US 422 and Lucy Avenue, Hershey from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 1st and again on the morning of July 2nd from 9:30 - 10:30 followed by Mass at 11:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W.
