Edward Salvatore Ionni, 80, of Harrisburg, and Fort Myers, Florida passed away September 27th, 2022, after a hard fought 3-year battle with cancer. Ed was born August 24th, 1942 in Hershey. Ed was the only child of the late Evo J. and Mida (Marani) Ionni. He was a graduate of St. Joan of Arc Parochial School, Hershey High School class of 1960, and The University of Maryland College Park in 1964. Ed began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with the AMP Corporation before joining Dean Witter as a licensed stockbroker in 1968. He retired at age 55 from Merrill Lynch in 1998. He enjoyed his retirement years playing countless rounds of golf, pitching for several men's softball teams, and taking in Minnesota Twins spring training games in Florida. His most cherished time was spent watching the sporting events of his 5 grandchildren. He was a member of the Colonial Country Club and the Hershey Country Club where he was able to build lasting friendships on and off the golf course. Ed was an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed his time with friends at many various sporting events, but his favorite place to be was at any University of Maryland game, rooting for his beloved Terps. He was also a member of the Hershey Italian Lodge and very proud of his Italian heritage. Ed's generosity ran deep and this was reflected in the many local charities he supported, and the people he quietly helped throughout his life. Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Randy (Tulli); his daughter, Julie Galich (Nino) of Marietta, Georgia; son David (Anita) of Harrisburg and five grandchildren, Grayson and Ava Galich and Marco, Griffin and Max Ionni. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Monday, October 3, 2022 in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave. in Hershey. A private interment will take place in the Hershey Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at a reception, following the mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Ed's memory to the Harrisburg Humane Society (humanesocietyhbg.org) or Guadalupe Center in Immokalee, Florida (guadalupecenter.org).
Edward L. Vey, Jr. husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Hershey Medical Center on September 17th. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Edward and Dorothy Vey in 1942. Ed was raised with a strong faith cemented by Catholic schools, and proudly graduated from Villanova University in 1964. His education ensured his successful life path. He proudly served in the Navy for twenty-six years both active duty and reserves until his retirement rising to the rank of Commander. He also enjoyed a career in banking working at Dauphin Deposit Bank in Harrisburg and earlier, Commonwealth Bank in Lancaster. He served many charitable organizations, most notably, as a national board member for the Arthritis Foundation for decades. Alongside him for his life's journey, was the love of his life, Jeanie Vey, whom he married in 1966 and together they had four children. His family joined him for many adventures including: Villanova athletic events, train excursions, hikes, bicycle rides, family trips, and many visits to Mt Gretna and Bethany Beach. Every stranger was a new friend, and Ed touched many lives in his lifetime. He made sure no one went hungry as he loved to share a meal at local restaurants. As a grandfather, he eagerly attended and supported all the many interests of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Jean Vey and four children: Jennifer Barkey (wife of Gene) of Little Silver, NJ, Douglas Vey (husband of Jennifer) of Baltimore, MD, Rebecca Durrett (wife of Dominic) of Landisville, PA, and Emily Buehler (wife of Ryan), of Scotch Plains, NJ. All together blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Olivia, Tyler and Connor Barkey, Leah, Charles and James Vey, Miles, Ryder, Fin and Rose Durrett, and Reid, Annabelle and Molly Buehler. Ed was preceded in death by his brother, John Joseph Vey, husband of Judith Lynn Vey of Pottstown and their three sons: Joshua, Zachery and Timothy Vey. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 26th at 11AM in the St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM. Interment will take place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to Lancaster Catholic High School, 650 Juliette Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 or a charity of your choice.
Charles F. McElwee passed away peacefully on August 31st, 2022 at home in Hershey, surrounded by his family. Born in Hazleton on June 25, 1954, he was the son of the late Charles F. Tess and Mary (Shields) McElwee. He was a graduate of St. Gabriels and Bishop Hafey High School in Hazleton. He received his B.A., with honors, from the University of Scranton and his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law. Charles was a partner at Cipriani & Werner in Harrisburg. With over 40 years of litigation experience, he was a talented and widely respected attorney who enjoyed the practice of law. He concentrated his practice in workers compensation and employment matters. He was a mentor, wise counsel, and empathetic confidante to colleagues, clients, and friends. A true intellect, Charles was a man for all seasons. A gifted conversationalist, he had a command of wide-ranging subjects, including politics, sports, history, literature, film, and Irish Catholicism. A bibliophile, he collected books on World War I and Russian history. Everyone who knew him was touched by his wealth of knowledge, kindness, character, and youthful disposition. No one could outmatch his sense of humor. Charles enjoyed culturally enriching trips, reading, following the Philadelphia Phillies, talking politics, and summer nights listening to music on his patio. He also enjoyed walks on Conynghams Main Street and hikes around Hazleton, which he appreciated for all its idiosyncrasies. What he loved most was his family. He shared a fun and loving relationship with his wife, Katie. He adored his three sons and nurtured and embraced their passions and interests. They were his best friends. A member of St. Joan of Arc Church, Hershey, he was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a retreatant at Loyola Jesuit Center, Morristown, N.J. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Greater Hazleton Historical Society. He is survived by his dearly loved wife of nearly 35 years, Katie (Connors) McElwee; his three adoring sons, Charles F., III, Wayne, PA; Robert Connors, Charleston, S.C.; and Shane Connors, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and his sister Mary Ann McElwee DeCusatis, Strafford. He is also survived by many friends, including his neighbors Dr. Lance and Leslie Hildrew, Hershey, who are like family. We are grateful for their love and support. A visitation will be held at the Hoover Funeral Home, 88 Lucy Ave. in Hershey on Tuesday, September 6, from 5-8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W. Areba Ave, Hershey on Wednesday, September 7, at 11AM. There will be no visitation at the church. A private interment will take place in Cavalry Cemetery in Drums. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Charles F. McElwee Fund for Cultural Enrichment at St. Joan of Arc School, Hershey, PA. Jean A. Gero Moore, 90, of Sebring, Fl, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022.
Born in Madison, NJ, on August 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Louise Granese Gero. Jean retired after 40 years as a service representative for the Public Service Electric & Gas Company in Newark, NJ. Jean was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Sebring Fl. A good-hearted and hard-working woman, Jean’s greatest joy was her family, lifelong friends, and helping those in need. In addition to her parents and brothers, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Conan Moore. Jean will be forever loved and remembered by her devoted family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jean on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave, Hershey with The Rev. Fr. Alfred P. Sceski. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday in the church from 10:00 AM until time of the service. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Mattern, Jr., born on August 20, 1925, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away in his 97th year on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late William and Anna Catherine Mattern. He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 72 years, and his children, Kathleen (Charles) Engle of Mount Joy, Denise (Steven) Haun of Landisville, Marianne (Thomas) Lawruk of Southport, NC, Carole (Bruce) Andrews of Harrisburg, and William (Bonny) Mattern of Palmyra. He was loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Florence (Theodore) Freedman of Lititz. William was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and Francis, his sisters, Mary, Catherine, and Rosemarie, as well as a great-grandson, Alessio Falci. He graduated from East Lampeter High School and Franklin and Marshall College. He served in the Navy as an aerial photographer during World War II, stationed in Guam and later in Tokyo, Japan. In his professional life, he was an accountant, having worked in various positions within the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company, including the Hershey Lumber Company and Hersheypark and Arena. After 30 years with the organization, he retired in 1989. Bill had many talents and interests, including dabbling in darkroom photography, assembling models and dollhouses, constructing model railroads, doing home remodeling projects, woodworking furniture and toys, grilling at family cookouts, playing with his grandchildren, and slipping Milkbone treats to dogs. He was an active member of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Company and served as Treasurer for many years. In retirement, he looked forward to his daily morning coffee at the firehouse with friends. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Tuesday, August 23rd at St. Joan of Arc Church, (where he was a longtime member), 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey, PA, 17033. The family will begin receiving guests at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in the Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers send contributions to “The Heart of the Parish Fund” , c/o St. Joan of Arc Church. Patricia A. Jones, 56, formerly of Hummelstown, passed away on August 14, 2022 at her home in York Haven surrounded by her loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on October 30, 1965, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maryann (Agresto) O'Connell. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Frank O'Connell. Patti was employed at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center where she work in environmental health. Prior to working at the hospital, she worked for The Hershey Company in the main factory and was also a beautician. Patti truly enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved chatting with friends and family, traveling and best of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring person, devoted mother and friend, always thinking of others first. She asked for little but gave so very much. Surviving are her daughters, Shanitta Gutt and husband Jon of York, Cheyenne Jones and Kendrell Ervin of Harrisburg; Grandchildren Axel Gutt & Kloe Ervin; Fiance, Fabian West of York Haven; three brothers, Joseph P. (Silvia) O'Connell of Palmyra, John K. (Karen) O'Connell of Mt. Joy and Michael S. (Sandie) O'Connell of Hershey; sister, Nancy Keller of Hummelstown; sister in law, Lisa O'Connell of Harrisburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10:30 am - 11:30 am with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following on Friday, August 19th in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Share condolences at www.hooverfuneralhome.com. Helen Jo Yancofsky Fazio, 93, of Hummelstown, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Spring Creek Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Born in Shenandoah on November 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Veronica Yeckabosky Yancofsky. Helen was a graduate 1946 graduate of J.W. Cooper High School. She worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in a variety of positions. She retired in 1985 from the Pennsylvania State Police as a Clerical Supervisor 2, and before that worked for the PSP as a Statistical Assistant. Helen also worked for the Governor’s Justice Commission where she edited the monthly Uniform Crime Reports, the Department of Health, and as co-owner of Fazio’s Sporting Goods. After retirement, Helen worked part-time for the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center, the Hershey Country Club as a hostess, and Country Meadows of Hershey as a supervisor in the Keller Dining Room. Helen was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic church, and a social member of the Hershey Italian Lodge. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Fazio, on June 2, 1978; five sisters, Antoinette Honushefsky, Bertha Evanowsky, Anna Yancofsky, Mary Woolley, and Theresa Drahos. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian Burial for Helen will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 11:00am in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave, Hershey with The Rev. Fr. Alfred P. Sceski. A viewing will be held Wednesday in the church from 10:00am until 11:00am. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Pete Marcucci, 91 of Hershey passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with his family by his side. Pete was born in Palermo, Italy on February 16, 1931, son of the late Guilio and Matilda Marcucci. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Elsie (Carlucetti) Marcucci, two sisters, Olga Sechrist and Alba (Wallace) DeAngelis, and grandson, Matthew Pritchett.
Pete is survived by his daughter, Judy (Marcucci) Pritchett, wife of Kyle Pritchett, and a son, John Marcucci, husband of Gina Marcucci, four grandchildren, Krystin, wife of Emneko Sweeney, Gordon, Lewis, and Carmen, Five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Marcus, Cameron, Cosette, and Charles, and many extended family and friends. Pete was an exceptional loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He adored his family. He was an avid tennis and golf enthusiast, and loved the Yankees and Notre Dame. One of his greatest joys was attending his great-grandsons’ Hershey Basketball and Football games. He was their loyal fan. Pete also loved spending time with his faithful companion, his dog Harley. Pete retired from The Hershey Company (formerly Hershey Foods) where he worked in the Millwright Dept. He then went to work for Hershey’s Chocolate World as their Maintenance Supervisor, and was instrumental in the development of the building and tour ride. After retirement he enjoyed working with his son at Chocolate Covers, LTD. Pete was a Korean War Veteran, and served in the United States Navy in 1952, and the United States Army from 1952-1954. He married the love of his life in 1954. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey. Visitation will be from10:00-11:00 prior to Mass at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Humanity Gifts Registry, which benefits Pennsylvania Medical Education and Research Programs, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Humanity Gifts Registry,P.O. Box 835, Philadelphia PA 19105-0835. Interment with Military Honors will be private at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Margaret M. Orlosky, 94, of Hershey, formerly of Fryburg, PA, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022, surrounded by her children. She was born December 16, 1927, in Windber, PA, daughter of the late Anna (Leasock) and John Dudra. Margaret was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and their Areba Club. She also had enjoyed volunteering with the Hershey Medical Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Orlosky and granddaughter, Jessica. Margaret is survived by her son, Ron (Carol) Orlosky; daughters, Carol (Al) Fricke and Joy (John) McManus; grandchildren, Dan (Nicole) Orlosky, Kevin (Andrea) Orlosky, Monica Fricke, Alexis Orlosky, Ryan McManus, Valerie Orlosky, Kyle McManus and four great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 11AM in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM.
