Dr. Kathleen "Katie" Donahue, DO, 51, of Hershey, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 27, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born April 26, 1963 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Edward and Kathleen (O'Shea) Donahue. Katie received her BS from Fordham University, and her DO from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital. She was a member of The Board of Directors of The Janus School; American Society of Anesthesiologists; Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists; Medical Volunteers of Operation Smile; Hershey Youth Football Association, Parent, Booster and Medical Support; Hershey Soccer Club, Parent, Booster and Medical Support; and worshipper at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Katie has served the University and the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center community with distinction as an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics, Associate Vice Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, and as Director of the Operating Room. Katie is survived by; two sons, Aidan and Declan Donahue; mother, Kathleen Donahue; two brothers, Fr. Charlie Donahue and Edward Donahue; and nephew, T.J. Donahue. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward John Donahue. A visitation will be held Monday, December 29, 2014, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Route 422 & Lucy Avenue, Hershey. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 1:30 pm in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Services on Long Island, where Katie grew up include a visitation Thursday Jan 1, 2014: 7-9pm at Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh, NY 11793. Mass of Christian Burial Friday Jan 2, 2015, 10am Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 75 Parkside Road Drive, Point Lookout, NY. Interment will be immediately following at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY. To honor Katie, an endowment has been established to support anesthesiology outreach education, research, and clinical care through international medical mission work. James W. Coleman, 81, of Hershey, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
"Jim" was born in Girardville, PA on July 26, 1933 to the late James and Sarah Coleman. He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1951 where he was point-guard on the basketball team. After serving in the Korean War, "Red" moved to Hershey to work as a bellman at The Hotel Hershey and met the love of his life, the late Dorothy (Mann) Coleman, whom he married on May 14, 1960. "Jimmy" retired from The Hotel Hershey as Bell Captain in 1993. "The Captain" was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish, the Hershey Italian Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the American Legion. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Notre Dame Fightin' Irish fan. Forever proud of his Irish heritage, "Pop-Pop" will be remembered for his warm smile, sense of humor, and loving nature towards all. Truly the "Mayor of Hershey," he was known fondly by most everyone around town. Jim is survived by his two daughters, Sara Coleman of San Francisco, CA, Penny Larkin of Camp Hill, PA, as well as three grandchildren - Nathan, Rachel, and Hannah- and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 23rd in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. Viewing will be held on Monday evening, December 22nd, from 5:30PM - 7:00PM in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Hershey. Interment with military honors will be at in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, immediately following the mass. Casantini, 98, of English Center, PA, formerly of Hershey, passed away on December 13, 2014 in his home.
He was born November 6, 1916 in Hershey, son of Evangelista and Rosa Casantini. Eceo graduated from Hershey High and was a U.S. Army WWII veteran. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Wellsboro; and a former member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Hershey. He worked for both the New Cumberland Army Depot and the former Olmstead AFB in Middletown. He was a master craftsman that excelled in working with wood. Mr. Casantini is survived by; his wife of over 60 years, Catherine (Bracale) Casantini; a brother, Joseph Casantini of Hershey; many nieces & nephews; and dear friend, Carrie Kitajima. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. A one hour visitation will begin at 11:30 am on Thursday, December 18, 2014 in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., of Hershey. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 12:30 PM, followed by graveside services in the Hershey Cemetery. Ring, 83 of Hershey, PA, Chaumont, NY and Cape Canaveral FL, passed away at his Florida home peacefully on November 25, 2014.
Robert was born the son of the late Ambrose A. and Laura I. (Menikheim) Ring in Syracuse, NY. Bob served the Marine Corps in Korea and retired from CONTEL in Hershey after 36 years. He was a 25 year active member of Kiwanis; Hershey VFW; and an officer of the Jaycees in Syracuse. He was also a member of the parishes Blessed Sacrament, St. Joan of Arc, St Vincent and Our Savior. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, hunting, fishing and boating on Lake Ontario. Bob was a devoted father and husband. He is survived by his wife of 60 years , Marilyn; son , Thomas (Janet) Ring of Harrisburg, daughters, Deborah (Wayne) Ebersole of Elizabethtown and Kathleen (Stephen) Morris of Avondale; three grandchildren, Jacy Ring; Mathew and Stephanie Ebersole. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Norbert A. and Leonard H. Sylvia was a 1939 graduate of Hershey High School and was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church. A kind, gentle soul, Sylvia was a homemaker and was employed by the Department of Agriculture before starting her family. She enjoyed listening to music and liked to dance with her husband Bill. She was her happiest when she was surrounded by her family. Sylvia is survived by a daughter, Lorraine M. Pennesi of Hershey; a son, William J. (wife, Ginny) Pennesi, Jr. of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren, Kaitlyn & Taylor Pennesi; and two sisters, Lily J. Capitani and Sister M. Salvatoris, D.M.(Capitani), both of Hershey. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 9 - 10 AM in the Hoover Funeral Home of Hershey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10:30 am in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will follow in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 28, 2014 at 11 AM in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey. Burial will be in the Hershey Cemetery. She was born September 17, 1938 in Pawtucket, RI.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie McKenna, with whom she lived; two sons, Joseph N. McKenna of Hackettstown, NJ and Thomas A. McKenna and her grandchildren, Katherine & Matthew McKenna all of Phillipsburg, NJ. Also surviving is her twin sister, Jeanne Ilyas of Woonsocket, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Stephen McKenna. During her younger years, Jeannette had been employed in various manufacturing jobs, however, most of her life she was a homemaker. After relocating to Hummelstown, she became very active in the Widows Support Group at Grace United Methodist Church. The family will honor her life with a private memorial service. Pronio, 92, of Hummelstown, passed away on September 29, 2014 in his home. He was born June 1, 1922 in Hershey, son of the late Michele and Rosa (Crugnale) Pronio.
Vincent was a graduate of Hershey High Class of 1940 and Lebanon Valley College. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Pronio's memberships include: St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church; member of the Board of Directors of the former Hershey Bank; and past president of the United Associated Grocers. Vince's father established Pronio's General Store in 1919. After Vince returned from the war, his father wanted to retire, and Vince took over running the store. In 1962 he built what is now known as Pronio's Market. He truly enjoyed spending time in the store visiting with customers and employees until recently, when his health would not permit it. Mr. Pronio is survived by; his loving wife of 64 years, Ronnie M. (Prang) Pronio of Hummelstown; daughters, Paula Pronio of Shaker Heights, OH and Lorna (Sam) Thomas of Hummelstown; sons, Michael (MaryJo) Pronio of Hummelstown and Patrick (Marianne) Pronio of York; sisters, Elvira Hand of Elizabethtown and Gloria Luongo of Hershey; grandchildren, Thomas, William, Molly, Catherine & Joseph Crabtree, James, Natalie, Matthew & Ellen Pronio, Mireille (Dan) Winings, John, Daniel & Michael Thomas, Astin Pronio; great-grandchildren, Callaghan, Jackson Maul & Olivine Crabtree. She was born August 15, 1923 in Uniontown, PA daughter of the late Harold and Imogene (Ash) Smith. In her early years, she was a child actress appearing in several episodes of "Our Gang". Imogene was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey. Other memberships and volunteer work include: serving on many local and state Republican Committees; past President of the Dauphin County Lawyers Wives Club; former Director of Lourdes House, (home for single mothers); former Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, (DAR); representative of the DAR at Immigration proceedings in the Federal District Court; member of the Hershey Country Club and the Hamilton Club of Lancaster. She was also an avid Bridge player. Gene is survived by; her husband of 59 years, Michael T. Morris of Hershey; son, Michael S. Morris and his wife Anne of New Hope; daughter, Patricia C. Woodard, of Hershey; 4 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Gene was preceded in death by her first husband, Major Rodger C. Woodard, Sr., who died in the Korean War; and son, Sgt. Rodger C. Woodard, Jr. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 11:00 am in the St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Private interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
